Has anyone heard about the mystery surrounding Flora Vesta Smith Helmick's disappearance? I’ve been diving into this case lately. I can’t stop thinking about the discovery of the car wreck in the Kentucky River. Given its proximity to the Valley View Ferry and the currents in that area, I can't help but wonder if local water conditions might have contributed to the car going off the road.
It seems like there might be more to uncover with Keyton's driving record. Though his license was revoked, I'm curious if there’s more info about his history. Could his known driving issues have factored into this tragic incident?
If anyone has insight or remembers talk from back in the day, I'd love to hear about it. It’s so frustrating to see cases like this cold for so long with families left in limbo.
Has anyone else wondered about the possible route that Flora, Martha, and John might have taken back in 1973? I did a bit of digging and discovered that the roads around the Kentucky River near the Valley View Ferry were quite different back then. The ferry itself has been in operation since 1785, so it makes sense they might have tried using it to cross the river. Given that John had a revoked license and a history of poor driving, I can't help but speculate if he might have made a wrong turn or underestimated the river currents that night.
I've also been thinking about how little information we have about that trip. Were there reported road conditions or weather issues that day that could have contributed to their car ending up submerged? It's really sad that Flora's family still doesn't have answers, especially given her health challenges. I hope more people from the area in the 70s might come forward if they remember anything. What do the local folks here think? Anyone have family stories or heard tales from back in the day about accidents around that time?
