I’ve been reading up on Dontell Black’s tragic case, and I keep thinking about the lack of security measures in areas like Longwood Manor. It’s incredibly sad to see lives lost in settings where we’d hope people feel safe. From what I've read, the 9700 block of South Halsted Street isn’t new to these incidents, and it makes me wonder why there aren’t more visible security cameras or community patrols.
It’s frustrating how these things might deter potential violence but still remain overlooked. Dontell's family and friends deserve some peace of mind, and it’s tough to find that when there seem to be gaps in safeguarding public spaces.
To those who loved Dontell, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine how hard it is not having answers or justice. I truly hope the community and local leaders come together to push for enhancements in safety that could prevent more heartbreak.
Just a thought, but has anyone seen other neighborhoods successfully implement community-based security measures that actually make a difference? Maybe there’s a way to advocate for something similar in Longwood Manor.

I've been following the case of Dontell Black, and I just can't get over how brazen this attack was. It's chilling to think that someone would just walk up and open fire like that. I can't imagine what his family is going through, knowing the killer is still out there. It must be incredibly frustrating for them and the whole community. I really hope anyone with information comes forward soon. How long do families typically have to wait in situations like this before investigators start to get some traction? Does anyone know if there've been any community-led initiatives to help find more leads? It's hard to stand by when it feels like little progress is being made. My heart sincerely goes out to Dontell's loved ones.
Has anyone looked into the surveillance footage from nearby businesses? Given that the shooting happened on a fairly busy street like South Halsted, I’d think there might be cameras in the area that could provide some leads. It's unimaginable what Mr. Black's family is going through, and any bit of information could potentially make a huge difference. I really hope the community comes together to help the detectives piece this puzzle together. If anyone knows of efforts like canvassing for footage or tips, maybe we can help spread the word? Every little bit counts towards getting justice for Dontell.
