I've been thinking a lot about the Deon Young case lately, especially since it's been almost 40 years and still no resolution. What fascinates me is the boat they were on—a 17-foot wooden dory. I did a bit of research, and those boats aren't exactly known for their stability in rough waters. The Columbia River is notorious for its strong currents and unpredictable weather. It's baffling that they chose that type of vessel for the trip. Does anyone else here have experience with dories? Could poor weather and an ill-suited boat have been the perfect storm for a tragedy, or is there something more to this story? It's just haunting that nothing—no debris, no personal items—was ever found. Thoughts?
I’ve always been fascinated by the lore around the Columbia River, especially its reputation for being unforgiving to even the most experienced sailors. It makes me think about the case of Deon Young, Lynn Kassler, and Kenneth Cutcher from back in '84. That part of the river—especially during that unpredictable spring season—can be so perilous. I wonder if anyone's looked into the local maritime accidents that have occurred around that time, just to see if there’s any pattern or shared conditions that could offer a bit more insight into what might have gone down. It's frustrating to think how the river just swallowed them up without a trace, though. Has anyone come across any similar cold cases from that area that might provide clues?
