Has anyone else looked into the role of local law enforcement leading up to Amanda McCaig's tragic death? From what I’ve gathered, Amanda had been experiencing harassment and stalking by her ex for quite some time. This makes me wonder, did Amanda or her family report any of these incidents to the police prior to the murder? And if they did, what actions were actually taken? It's so upsetting to think that maybe more could have been done to protect her. While it's too late to change the past, understanding the effectiveness of the police response could be vital for preventing similar tragedies in the future. My thoughts are with Amanda's loved ones during this difficult time. They deserve answers.

I am Amanda’s sister. Yes our mother went to the Sheriff to get a restraining order, and they all but laughed and said you know who his parents are. Nothing will come of that. Like what’s the point. His mother was the 911 dispatcher who took the call. His step father was a detective for the police department. She reported that her killer came into our property with a weapon one night outside Amanda’s window. And stated she had an audio recording proving it. He told her friend while on the phone with her. Her friend kept rhat recording safe. They didn’t want to hear it. They did nothing to protect her. Even after her death, we would be followed by police anytime we went anywhere. So we always had to be going the exact speed limit and never doing anything wrong. We did move away.

You can put in a request to the admin to update her case to reflect this information. I feel like having that out in the universe would put a light on how broken this system is sometimes.

Hi everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about Amanda Kathern McCaig's case and the role community awareness could have played. It's truly devastating that this tragedy unfolded right under the eyes of her community. From what I've gathered, there were signs of Amanda being targeted by her ex-boyfriend even before that terrible day. It makes me wonder if more awareness about the seriousness of stalking and domestic abuse might have prompted someone to step in or at least encouraged Amanda to seek help sooner.
I know hindsight is always 20/20, and it's so easy to think of what might have been done differently. Still, her case is a stark reminder for all of us to stay alert to the signs of harassment in our friends' and neighbors' lives. Sometimes all it takes is a concerned inquiry to make a difference, and perhaps even save a life. My thoughts continue to be with Amanda’s family and friends as they endure this painful chapter.
Stay vigilant, everyone.

I can promise you, I’m her sister, community was aware. Reports were made to her guidance counselor. My mother tried to get a restraining order. His mother was the 911 dispatcher who took the call and his step father was a police detective. He got away with a lot. Typical in a small town. Police kids always got away with a lot. We tried.

I was revisiting some of the older cases and Amanda Kathern McCaig's story still haunts me. It's so painful to reflect on what her family must have gone through. I want to talk about the critical need for awareness around stalking behaviors. It's alarming how it often gets downplayed until something tragic happens. In Amanda's case, there were clear red flags when her ex-boyfriend began stalking her right after their breakup.
I keep thinking about what more could have been done to protect Amanda and prevent this tragedy. We need to create more supportive environments where young people feel safe enough to report stalking or harassment without fear of being dismissed. Schools, parents, and peers all play a role here. It's stories like Amanda's that remind me how essential it is to push for stronger protective measures and education about these issues. Her tragic ending should fuel us to advocate for change, ensuring no other young person has to endure something like this. Much love and strength to her family and friends as they continue to cope with their loss.
