I’ve been thinking a lot about the bravery of little Santonio Lucas, the sole survivor of that horrific shooting back in 1999. It's incredibly devastating what happened to him and his family, and I can't even begin to imagine the trauma he's had to endure. At just 11 years old, he had the presence of mind to hide in a closet while everything was unfolding around him. It's such a tragic situation, yet his survival is nothing short of a miracle.
I hope that over the years, Santonio has been able to heal, even though losing so many members of his family so suddenly must leave a lasting scar. I also wonder about the kind of support he received after the tragedy. It's crucial that our communities develop more robust support systems for the survivors of such brutal acts of violence. They need all the care and love they can get to rebuild their lives.
If anyone has any info on how Santonio’s doing or how we, as a community, can help similar survivors, please share. It’s been over two decades since the incident, but the importance of helping those left behind is as pressing as ever. Let’s continue to keep the memories of Craig DeCarlo Briskey and his family alive by fostering environments where sadness is met with compassion and help.
Hi everyone,
I've been reading through the posts and can't stop thinking about the survivors in these situations, especially young Santonio Lucas, who endured such an unimaginable ordeal. It's difficult to even fathom the bravery it must have taken for an 11-year-old to stay hidden and survive after witnessing such horror. I keep wondering about the long-term effects on young survivors like him. How do they cope with the emotional and psychological aftermath? Are there any support systems in place for children who go through such traumatic events? If anyone has insights or knows of resources that could have been available back then, I'd love to learn more. There's so much we still need to understand to better support victims and survivors of domestic violence.
Sending thoughts of healing and strength to Santonio and all those touched by this tragedy.
