I’ve been thinking a lot about Sterling Hargrave and Terrance Banks and how their story is such a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise from the entanglement with gangs and drugs. My heart truly goes out to their families who have to live with this tragedy every day. It seems like Sterling had so much life ahead of him, being only 21 and a high school graduate already making his way in the world. The role of young people in such serious crimes also leaves me feeling uneasy. Jaydon L. Reid was just 14 at the time – it’s almost unimaginable that someone so young could be involved in a crime like this. It really makes you wonder about the influences and circumstances that lead to these tragic decisions. Let’s hope this case brings more attention to preventing gang recruitment and addresses some of the root causes leading our youth down these paths. I hope the community can find healing and come together to work on solutions that prevent future tragedies.
