I've been following the Michael Fuqua case, and one thing that stands out to me is the role of the neighborhood environment in the whole tragic scenario. It's devastating to think that environments marked by high crime rates could play such a significant part in young people's lives, often presenting them with limited, sometimes dangerous choices. I can't help but wonder if there were moments where intervention might have made a difference, offering Michael and others like him a safer path forward. As a community, I feel we really need to invest in creating safer spaces and opportunities for our youth. No one should have to live in fear of violence or make it through such hardships alone. My thoughts are with Michael’s family and friends during this incredibly painful time. What changes do you think could help prevent future tragedies in communities like Michael’s?
