I can't stop thinking about the ripple effects of Brandon Littlejohn's tragic death. I grew up not too far from North Calhoun Street, and it’s disheartening to see another young life cut short in the same neighborhood. What always strikes me is how these cases seem to keep happening, and yet, we rarely see significant progress in addressing the cause. It got me thinking about the role of community trust—almost every time, we hear about a lack of witnesses willing to come forward, and I can't help but wonder if this is due to a breakdown in trust between the community and those meant to protect them. How can we encourage more people to speak up when they see something, without fear of retaliation or skepticism towards the police? It seems like we need solutions that not only enforce the law but also build bridges. Strengthening community bonds and fostering trust could lead to more cooperation and, hopefully, more solved cases. It’s important to always remember Brandon not just as another statistic, but as someone who was loved and whose life mattered. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones who are still seeking closure.
