As someone who's been following this case, I find myself constantly thinking about how deeply this loss has impacted Jayvon's peers at Central High School. It's so important to remember the unseen tremors tragedies like this send through a community. Jayvon seemed to really connect with his classmates and teachers, making them laugh and offering positivity in a way that can't easily be replaced. High school can be such a pivotal time in a young person’s life, and to have such a source of joy and support ripped away so suddenly is unimaginable. I'm sure that his friends and teachers are still grappling with the loss, trying to make sense of something so senseless. Let's keep the dialogue open about the effect violence has on the wider school community and continue pressing for action - not just for Jayvon’s family but for his friends and the teachers who cared for him, too. Every life lost leaves a profound absence, and we need to make sure we're supporting everyone who's grieving and advocating for change.
