It is a terrible way to end a human life. No matter the circumstances, loss through violence leaves wounds that never fully heal. What makes this tragedy even harder is that many in the community never knew the full history of the man whose life ended that early morning.
Life has a way of bringing the past back into the light, even when years have passed. What happened that morning does not surprise me—but what remains difficult to understand is that there were people present who heard and witnessed what truly happened, yet so many questions remain unanswered.
For anyone who sincerely wants to understand the full story, the search cannot begin with that morning alone. It must go back to a 2001 court case: State of California vs. Bryce Richard Mason. Within that history lies important context—context that helps explain why the past, no matter how deeply buried, eventually resurfaces.
No one knows.is that if his daughter, who was present that night, along with his second wife, his two young sons along with Vidal wife were ever able to speak openly and truthfully, a clearer picture might emerge. It was well known that they did not speak freely unless permitted. These are questions that, to this day, no one has truly asked.
I also know first hand that just months after her father’s death, his daughter enlisted in the military. That choice speaks volumes about the weight she may have carried and the path she chose forward. None of this diminishes the tragedy—especially for the children involved. They lost their father in a way no child ever should, and they deserve compassion, privacy, and understanding.
Yet even in darkness, there is still the possibility of light. Every story has more than one side, and one voice that has never been fully heard is that of the shooter. It has now been seven years. The case appears closed to the public, but unresolved truths have a way of lingering.
As we all know, the truth—when fully exposed—has the power to set us free. Not to reopen wounds, but to bring understanding, accountability, and perhaps, in time, peace for everyone of both families and the community
Well written. You must be a writer? Now you have me interested in this story lol. Let me know if you've written more about it somewhere.
