I’ve been following the Ronald "Trey" Peters case, and one thing that strikes me is the role of surveillance footage in nailing down the suspects. It's terrifying to think about how things could have been different if there weren’t any cameras. It goes to show that sometimes technology can make the world a bit safer, even though it didn’t prevent the crime in this instance. My heart goes out to Trey’s family and friends who have to relive the nightmare of that footage being shown in court. It's haunting and a reminder of what the LGBTQ community faces daily. I hope this leads to more awareness and prompts local businesses and public places to keep expanding their surveillance systems. It’s a small step, but maybe it can prevent another senseless crime. Stay strong, everyone.
