Has anyone ever looked into the Sheriff Evans angle in the Isaac Barber case? I've been digging into some historical records, and it's really puzzling. Sheriff Evans played a potentially pivotal role during the period of the Barber-Mizell feud, yet his involvement in Isaac's capture and subsequent death often seems downplayed or overlooked. From what I gather, his home was where Isaac allegedly tried to escape and ended up dead. It's worth questioning if there was more going on there, given that Sheriffs back then often had tight connections with local families, including the Mizells. I can’t help but feel deeply for the Barbers and their community. Losing a family member in such a hostile environment must have been unimaginably painful. I wonder how much was known and how much was concealed due to the power dynamics at play. It’s difficult to understand how justice was served or perceived in such chaotic circumstances. With peace not coming until the 1940s, it’s a haunted chapter in Florida’s history that still stirs curiosity and sorrow for those affected.
