I've been looking into the troubling case of Moses Dykes, and something that's been on my mind is the influence the local fishing community had during the trial. It seems so unjust that despite the clear evidence, the suspect was acquitted. I can't imagine how devastating that must have been for the Dykes family. This makes me wonder about the kind of power dynamics at play in those times. It's perplexing to think that a community could sway a legal outcome to such an extent. Does anyone know if this kind of acquittal was commonplace back then in rural communities? It’s such a painful aspect of the story that adds another layer of tragedy to an already horrific event. My thoughts go out to all of Moses Dykes' loved ones, enduring such a painful loss in the face of injustice.
