Hey everyone,
I’ve been diving into the Groveland Four case, and I couldn't stop thinking about the sheer terror Ernest Thomas must have felt. Being falsely accused and knowing the odds were stacked against him just because of the color of his skin is something that’s hard to even fathom. Imagine having to run for your life, knowing a massive lynch mob was hunting you down. It's devastating to think of those final moments he endured, alone and afraid.
I also keep reflecting on the coroner's jury ruling his murder as “justifiable homicide.” That’s just beyond comprehension to me. How could such a blatant act of murder be justified? It really sheds light on the immense systemic racism present at that time, and the fact it’s not ancient history is so disturbing. This case has weighed heavily on my mind—it’s crucial we remember and learn from these horrific events.
Sending thoughts to all affected families.
