Has anyone delved into the safety protocols for firearm handling back in the '80s, particularly for law enforcement officers? It’s truly devastating to think about the loss of Officer John Carroll Koppin, this young man with a bright future ahead in both his personal and professional life. Given his Air Force background and his role as a police officer, I imagine he was well-trained. Yet, it makes me wonder if there were any gaps in firearm safety education or possibly outdated practices that could have contributed to this tragedy. In today’s police departments, there seems to be a strong emphasis on safety drills and mandatory training, but perhaps it wasn't as rigorous back then. My heart really goes out to his family and colleagues who must have struggled with such a sudden and shocking loss. Any insights from those familiar with law enforcement training during that time period?
