I came across the case of Lazaro Martinez and can't stop thinking about the ripple effect it must have on his loved ones. Losing someone so young and full of potential is utterly devastating. I can't help but feel a deep sense of compassion for Lazaro's family and friends as they cope with this tragedy. This case really brings to light how crucial it is for young people—and everyone really—to understand the weight that comes with handling a firearm. Josue Sanchez might not have intended to cause harm, but that split-second decision changed so many lives forever. I hope this terrible loss encourages more conversations within communities about the risks involved with guns and substance use. To everyone who knew Lazaro, know that even strangers are keeping him, and all of you, in their thoughts. It's important that we continue talking about these issues to prevent other families from experiencing similar losses.
