I can't stop thinking about the role of domestic violence intervention programs in cases like this. It's infuriating that Gawain Wilson had a known history of abuse and was supposedly attending a batterer's intervention program. How effective are these programs, really? Are there statistics that show they actually reduce violence or prevent tragic outcomes like what happened to the Hiatt family? It’s overwhelming to imagine the fear and anguish Megan must have felt, especially knowing that attempts were made to address Wilson’s violent tendencies. Why aren't these programs more closely monitored, and why wasn't there stronger intervention given his history? It's frustrating to think that even when there are signs and systems in place to help, things can still go so horribly wrong. I hope Megan can find some peace and that this tragedy pushes for real change in how domestic violence cases are handled. My heart goes out to her and everyone who loved Travis, Hayden, and Kayden.
