I've been thinking a lot about Mincey's prior felony record and how it played into the plea deal. It's infuriating to imagine how someone with a history like his could still get their hands on a firearm. I get that the legal system has to work with what it has, but it feels like people like Jarrod pay the price for these gaps in enforcement. His family deserved better, and his little girl deserved to have her dad around. It's just hard to shake the feeling that the system let him down. Does anyone have any insights on how these types of plea deals typically play out when prior convictions are involved? It seems like there should be more accountability.
