I’ve been thinking a lot about the witnesses in Malik Fuller’s case. It’s baffling and really sad to consider how fear and intimidation likely play a big role in keeping people silent. The fact that this happened in such a public area should mean there are potential witnesses who know something but are maybe too scared to speak up. It makes me wonder just how much is being left unsaid because people fear for their safety. I can't even imagine how hard it must be for Malik's family to wait for answers, knowing that someone out there might have the key piece to solving this. It’s important for us as a community to create spaces where people feel safe enough to come forward with information. Hoping that someone finds the courage to speak up soon. I’ve been thinking a lot about Malik Antonio Fuller and how much impact he had on those around him despite being only 16. It’s incredibly saddening to see a young life with so much promise and potential just disappear in such a senseless way. I read stories from people who knew him, and it's clear that his bright spirit really shone through. You can just tell he was one of those kids who left a mark on everyone he met.
I wonder what we as a community can do better to prevent these tragedies from happening again. Baltimore in 2015 was definitely struggling with violent crimes, and Malik’s story is just one of many that year.
