I recently came across Sterling Mark Day's case, and it really made me think about the broader picture of community involvement (or lack thereof) in solving violent crime. With Sterling's murder being one of the many tragic incidents in Baltimore back in 2015, I wonder how much the local community feels the impact of these events firsthand and what that means for their willingness to cooperate in investigations. From what I've read, it seems like fear and mistrust are huge obstacles when it comes to witness cooperation in these neighborhoods.
For Sterling's family and others like them, finding closure must be incredibly hard with so many unanswered questions. I'm curious if anyone here has insight on how communities in similar situations have worked to rebuild trust and improve cooperation with law enforcement. Are there examples of initiatives that have successfully bridged these gaps elsewhere? I can only hope that Sterling’s loved ones get the answers they deserve.
