I’ve been thinking a lot about the unsung heroes in tragic situations like the one involving Peter Anthony Perez-Corona. It’s such a terrifying scenario, and yet, his instinct was to step in and protect his friend. That says so much about the type of person Peter was—selfless and brave beyond words. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain his family is going through, but they must be incredibly proud of his courage. It’s maddening how such senseless violence can snatch away such promising lives. I hope that both the authorities and the community can rally to address the issues that lead to these tragic situations. Peter should be remembered not just for the tragedy of his passing but for the heroism he displayed under such dire circumstances.
