I can't stop thinking about how so many lives were affected by the surge in violence in Baltimore back in 2015. Keith Watts' story is a tragic reminder of how dangerous disputes can become without proper support and resources within the community. I was reading about the 1800 block of Druid Hill Avenue where he lost his life, and it’s hard not to feel the weight of how many families were impacted around that time. Baltimore has always been a resilient city, but it's clear that systemic issues like poverty and underfunded community services only make it harder for residents to feel safe and hopeful. The 300+ homicides that year, including Keith's, paint a picture of unmet needs and broken systems that struggled to protect citizens. It’s incredibly sad that Keith’s family, like so many others, had to endure such pain and loss. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this wave of violence. It’s crucial to remember the names and stories behind the statistics and continue advocating for changes that emphasize prevention and community support. If we have any hope of turning things around, we must start by addressing these deep-rooted issues.
