I’ve been following the case of Freddy Rijo-Contreras for a while now, and something that's been on my mind is the community's involvement, or lack thereof, in cases like this. It’s such a tough thing to process, knowing someone’s life was taken in such a violent way, and I think about the people who might have seen or heard something that could make a difference. It must be incredibly hard for Freddy’s family, trying to find peace without answers or justice.
I remember hearing about how local businesses near the crime scene were canvassed for any CCTV footage, but that didn’t seem to lead anywhere. It's frustrating to think that someone out there might have the piece of the puzzle that solves this. I wonder if fear of retaliation or just general distrust of the system stops people from coming forward.
Sending thoughts of strength to Freddy’s family. If there’s anything we as a community can do, like fundraising for a reward for information leading to an arrest, it might be worth discussing. Anything that keeps the pressure on to solve this senseless crime.
