Anyone else find it odd that they were out in a ten-foot skiff with five people and a dog in the first place? That feels like way too many for such a small boat, especially considering the chilly waters and unpredictable weather around Juneau in December. I know the Coast Guard is out there doing their best, but I can't help but wonder if there was any kind of safety briefing before they set out, or if they might have had an emergency plan. Also, does anyone have any info on the conditions that night—was it especially rough, or were they just caught off guard? It's just so unsettling to think about how quickly things can go wrong out on the water. If anyone has insights into local boating protocols or weather reports from that night, I'd be really interested to know more.
