I've been following the tragic case of Resnick Hampton Jr., and my thoughts are with his friends and family during this incredibly difficult time. One thing that's been on my mind is the location where this horrific incident took place—at a gas station. In so many communities, these places are meant to be safe spots for a quick stop, and they're usually bustling at all hours. It's unsettling that something so violent could happen there, at a place so many people frequent without a second thought.
I'm wondering if any additional security measures were discussed following the incident. Do local businesses near MLK Street in St. Pete feel the need to step up their security, especially after something like this? It seems like after such a shocking event, there might be some conversations in the community about making these public spaces safer.
Has anyone here heard about any initiatives in response? I hope we can find a way to prevent such tragedies from happening in spaces that should feel safe.
