I just came across the case of the missing Cessna 180 out of Anchorage, and something that's been nagging at me is how changeable the weather can get around Rainy Pass. For those unfamiliar with Alaskan aviation, it's notoriously tricky, with unpredictable winds and sudden snow squalls. While there's been a lot of focus on the flight path itself, I'm curious about any recent reports of unusual weather patterns in the area at the time of the disappearance. Did anyone in the local flying community notice anything odd? A small change in conditions could have made a big difference for Kenneth, Robert, Larry, and William. Would love to hear if anyone has insights or knows more about typical weather patterns during that time of year in Rainy Pass.
I was just thinking about that overdue flight from Anchorage to Grayling. Has anyone else considered the weather conditions they might have encountered over Rainy Pass? I read that area can be especially treacherous with sudden changes in visibility and strong winds. It makes me wonder if they got caught in something unexpected. Thoughts? Also, does anyone have more info on the Cessna 180 model they're flying? I read they're generally reliable, but maybe there's a specific issue with this plane? Keeping hope alive for Kenneth, Robert, Larry, and William.
