I recently stumbled upon the case of Charles Cummins, and it really got me thinking about the justice system back in those days. Cummins was trying to make Redding a safer place for everyone, and it's so sad that his dedication cost him his life. What baffles me is how the convicted murderer was sentenced to 25 years but was out in just 16. It makes me wonder about the parole system and early releases back then. Was it common for sentences not to be fully served for such serious crimes? It seems like such a slap in the face to Cummins' family and the community, who had already lost so much. If anyone has insights or more details about how things were handled then, I'd love to understand it better. Sending love to those still affected by this loss, even all these years later.
