Did anyone else find it odd how quickly charges against Edward S. Keyes were dismissed? It seems like there were so many moving parts in this case. I can't shake the feeling that something crucial might have been overlooked during the investigation, especially considering how emotional the testimonies were, particularly from Mrs. J. D. De Turk. Her account of the quarrel, and her efforts to stop her son from taking a gun, are haunting.
I can't imagine what Daniel A. Todd's family must be going through, losing someone under such mysterious and tragic circumstances. Being a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and serving as a Deputy Sheriff, Todd seemed like someone who dedicated a lot to his community. Why was he called to the De Turk ranch in the first place? And what was so urgent that required him there at night?
I hope the truth eventually comes to light. It's unsettling not knowing if justice was truly served.
I recently found myself really drawn into the Daniel A. Todd case from 1910. One thing that sticks out to me is the role and motivation behind Edward S. Keyes' involvement. From what I understand, it was his mother, Mrs. J. D. De Turk, whose emotional testimony at the preliminary hearing struck a chord with many. Apparently, she tried to stop her son from leaving with a gun on the night of the shooting. It's hard not to feel for a mother caught in such a difficult position, fearing for her child while also dealing with the gravity of someone else's tragic death. I wonder if her testimony and her efforts to prevent him from leaving played a key role in the case being ruled accidental. Does anyone else have thoughts on how the judicial system balanced the family's accounts with the need for justice for Daniel Todd? It's such a complex and emotional situation for all involved.
