I've been thinking a lot about Warden Blanchard's last moments and can't help but wonder what might have gone through his mind. Arresting those hunters was just another day at work for him, trying to keep our wildlife safe, but the encounter turned deadly so quickly. It's tragic how unprepared he must have been for such betrayal—trusting that they'd comply as he led them out. It's unsettling how, in those brief 15 minutes, his life was stolen away. I wish there had been more awareness and resources back then to handle such remote situations. The fact that his killers vanished without a trace seems so unjust. His family never seeing justice served must've left such a heavy weight on them, and it's disheartening to know the case went cold despite efforts made at the time. The courage of game wardens who continue his work is nothing short of inspiring. Blanchard's story is more than a century old, yet it feels so fresh and poignant.
