I recently learned about Jamal Eaton’s case, and it’s been on my mind how his story is a glaring example of how the community's silence can hinder justice. Baltimore was struggling with so many homicides in 2016, and it’s really disturbing to think that Jamal’s killers might still be out there because people are too scared or unwilling to come forward. It makes you wonder how many other cases are sitting unsolved because witnesses are afraid to talk. With 318 homicides that year, the fear must have been suffocating. We need more safe avenues for witnesses to report information, otherwise, this cycle of violence and silence will just keep repeating. My heart goes out to Jamal's family, living with unanswered questions and the loss of their loved one. It's a reminder of the importance of community trust and cooperation with law enforcement to hopefully prevent more families from facing the same pain.
