I was just reading up on the murder of Rosario "Sam" Matranga, and one thing that really struck me was the method used in the attack. It seems horrifyingly personal to be ambushed at your own home like that, especially with a shotgun at close range. The level of brutality in this crime seems to suggest it was about sending a message as much as it was about eliminating a rival. I can't help but feel for his family, knowing their loved one was targeted in such a violent manner. It makes me wonder about the immense pressure and fear that must have been constantly present in the lives of those involved with or around the early Los Angeles Mafia. Does anyone else think it speaks volumes about the intense rivalries and the lengths they would go to assert dominance back then?
