I've been diving into some old newspaper archives about the South Pasadena tragedy in 1940, and something struck me about the aftermath. From what I've read, the school community really rallied around the families of the victims, including John Alman’s, offering support during such a difficult time. This kind of solidarity seems so crucial but is often overlooked when we focus on the horror of the crime itself. I can't imagine the immense sense of loss felt by students and faculty who looked up to these educators, especially someone like Principal Alman, who had been a part of their lives for nearly 20 years. It's so important that we not only remember the victims but also support mental health initiatives within our communities. Had there been more awareness and resources back then, perhaps the warning signs in Verlin Spencer's behavior could have been addressed before reaching such a tragic outcome. Let's keep discussing and advocating for the changes needed to prevent similar incidents in the future. Does anyone know if there were further changes to mental health policies in schools after this or if it was just a conversation that faded with time?
