Has anyone else been thinking about the role that mental health played in Herbert Mullin's crimes? It's just so deeply unsettling how untreated mental illness can lead to such horrific outcomes. In the case of Brian Scott Card and the other young victims, it's terrifying to think how Mullin's delusions drove him to commit such unimaginable acts.
It's evident that Mullin struggled profoundly with his mental health, and while that doesn't excuse his actions, it raises questions about the support (or lack thereof) for individuals with serious psychological issues in that era. I sometimes wonder if things would have gone differently if there had been more effective interventions available for Mullin before his killing spree started.
My heart truly goes out to Brian’s family and the other victims' loved ones. The fear they must have experienced during that time is unimaginable. It’s important to keep their memories alive and continue to discuss proactive mental health support as a vital aspect of preventing such tragedies in the future. Anyone have thoughts on how we can advocate for better mental health systems now, in memory of those who were lost?
