I was recently thinking about the psychological control Shermantine seemed to have over Herzog throughout their crime spree. It's chilling to consider how their dynamic might have played a role in the tragic murder of Howard Michael King III and others. Herzog's eventual plea deal and reduced sentence might have been due, in part, to this manipulation. It makes you wonder if Herzog would have taken part in such horrors without Shermantine's influence. My heart goes out to King’s family and friends, who have to grapple with such senseless violence and the loss of a loved one to these twisted individuals. The complexities of their relationship might have delayed justice for Howard and Paul, and that adds another layer of pain for those left behind to mourn.

I've been following this case for a while now, and I recently stumbled upon a detail that really struck me. It’s often easy to overlook the personal aspects when you're dealing with notorious criminals like the "Speed Freak Killers," but I can’t help but think about the moments just before their reign of terror began. Howard Michael King III had a whole life ahead of him—35 years old, probably with plans and dreams for the future. The thought of him and his friend Paul Cavanaugh being ambushed in what should have been the quietude of Roberts Island is chilling. We've got to remember that every statistic is a person with a story. It’s harrowing to realize how close-knit communities can be ripped apart by the actions of a few, and it makes you think about the importance of supporting the victims’ families. They're the ones left to grapple with the aftermath long after the headlines fade away. Keeping them in my thoughts. ??

Does anyone else remember the confusing thrift shop lead in Howard King III’s case? I always wondered why this didn’t get more attention during the investigations. There were reports at the time that some of King’s belongings were inexplicably found at a local thrift shop just a week before his murder, which seemed odd to me. It’s unclear how or why they ended up there, and I can’t help but think there might have been a connection that was simply overlooked or not fully explored. Maybe someone close to him was trying to get rid of his things, or perhaps it was unrelated, but still, it raises questions about what else might have been going on in King’s life around that time. Does anyone know if this angle was ever investigated further? My thoughts are with Howard’s family and all the victims’ families as they continue to seek answers.
