Can we talk about the neighbors' role in these tragic events? It's been mentioned that several friends and neighbors knew about María and Judith's situation and heard some of József's violent threats. I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been to witness or overhear such things, especially if you're feeling powerless to stop it. We often wonder what more could have been done or if the warnings were taken seriously by the authorities. It's gut-wrenching to think that maybe if someone had intervened earlier, things might have turned out differently. My heart goes out to their friends and neighbors, who must carry a heavy burden knowing what they might have hoped to prevent. How can communities better support those showing signs of abuse before it escalates to such a tragic end?
