I recently read about how her case, and others like it, really highlighted both the struggles and triumphs of forensic science over the years. The fact that DNA advancements were pivotal in catching Lonnie David Franklin Jr. is both remarkable and a reminder of how far we've come, but also how much work the system needs. You can't help but wonder how many other cases might benefit from similar breakthroughs if they receive the attention and resources. Thinking about Alicia's family and the heartache they endured for decades is tough. No family should have to wait that long for answers. It's so important to keep learning from these cases, so that others won't have to suffer the same lengthy uncertainty.
