I’ve been thinking a lot about the investigation into the Carrillo’s Club shooting and how complex it must have been for law enforcement to piece everything together. Considering that Johnnie Malarkey was already in prison for other violent crimes, I can’t imagine the frustration of unraveling his entire web of criminal activity just to get justice for Mary Santos Ruiz and the other victims. The fact that multiple agencies had to collaborate must have been challenging, but it’s also reassuring to know that they eventually secured his confession. I hope that their relentless work offers some comfort to Mary’s family, knowing that the perpetrators were ultimately held accountable, at least in some part. It's a reminder of just how critical thorough investigations are in bringing cases like these to a close. My thoughts are with all those who continue to carry the loss of that night.
