Hey everyone, I am deeply moved by Jose Marin's story, and I've been trying to wrap my head around the challenges the community faces in cases like his. I've been thinking a lot about the fear of retaliation that hinders people from coming forward with what they might have seen or heard. It’s such a difficult position for the community members when they want justice but also have to consider their own safety and the safety of their families.
I've read about the efforts the LAPD put in, like canvassing the area and reviewing footage, but it's hard not to feel frustrated by the lack of progress over all these years. Can anyone share how communities can better support each other in these situations to build a trust bridge with law enforcement? Maybe there are successful examples from other places? It’s tragic to think that there are people who might have answers but are too afraid to speak up. I keep hoping for a breakthrough for Jose's case—his family deserves answers.
