Hey everyone,
I hope it's okay to share this small but significant detail about the case. I read that John Glimstad was working at the Miller Park Marina on that tragic day. It's hard to imagine what he must have been thinking or feeling in those moments. Those who worked with him mentioned how dedicated and enthusiastic he was about his job, often going above and beyond. It's just so incredibly unfair that such a promising young life was cut short by someone else's violence. My heart goes out to John’s family, friends, and coworkers who had to endure such a painful loss. If anyone else has recollections or memories of John, it might be helpful to shed more light on the wonderful person he was. I think remembering the victims in our own ways can bring some small comfort to those left behind.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the security measures (or lack thereof) that were in place at the time of the tragic events involving Ferguson. John Derek Glimstad was working at the Miller Park Marina when he was targeted by this former security guard turned killer. It makes me wonder about the protocols and training Burns International Security had for their staff.
Given the critical role security guards have in protecting people and property, what could have been different if there had been more stringent mental health checks or ongoing evaluations for their employees? It seems like Ferguson was in a very dark place, and perhaps if someone had been in tune with his behavioral changes, maybe this tragedy could have been averted? My heart truly goes out to John's family and all the other families affected. These events always make me think about just how much room there is for improvement in workplace mental health support. What are other people’s thoughts on this?
