I recently read through some of the court documents on Steve Carter's murder case, and I can't stop thinking about the testimony from the cyclist who discovered Steve's body. I can't even imagine the shock they must have experienced stumbling upon such a devastating scene. It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that something so horrific could happen to someone simply walking their dog on a trail. I keep asking myself how someone could even commit such an act without any moral restraint. It's chilling. And hearing how Steve was still holding onto Coco's leash, even in his last moments, really speaks to the bond he shared with his dog. The solidarity within the community after this tragedy is heartening, but it's equally disturbing to realize that these drifters had been prowling around, committing such atrocious acts. My thoughts are with Lokita, the cyclist, and everyone else touched by this senseless loss.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Steve Carter’s bravery during that awful event. I can’t imagine the fear and confusion he must have felt when suddenly faced with such a senseless attack while doing something so peaceful, just hiking with his dog. What strikes me is the connection he must have had with Coco, his Doberman. It’s almost as if they were fighting through this nightmare together; Steve still holding onto Coco’s leash even in his final moments. Coco survived, which feels like a small piece of mercy in an otherwise terrible story. I can’t help but think that if dogs could talk, Coco would have quite a story to tell about his loyal human. My heart really goes out to Lokita and everyone who loved Steve for their loss and the emptiness such a sudden departure leaves behind.

Has anyone else been following the trial and been particularly struck by how Steve Carter’s dog, Coco, survived the attack? It's just mind-boggling to me. I've been thinking a lot about how that poor dog stayed by Steve's side even after being wounded. Dogs are truly loyal companions, and I can’t imagine the trauma Coco must have gone through. It’s a small miracle Coco survived, and I hope she found comfort and healing with a loving family after everything she witnessed. Sending thoughts to Steve’s wife and loved ones, who have had to navigate such a painful situation while focusing on their own healing. It's just an incredibly difficult time for everyone involved. Anyone else have updates or know how Coco is doing now?
