Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about the tragic case of Ernesto Lora Jr. and felt the urge to discuss the impact this has had on the cycling community in Oakland. It's so sad to think about how a simple bike ride, something many of us do to unwind or commute, ended in such tragedy for Ernesto. Given the location near Lake Merritt, an area many cyclists frequent, it really hits home for those of us who often use these paths. It’s distressing to think his life was cut short in a place that should have felt safe. I wonder if there could be more done in terms of safety measures for cyclists in Oakland, like better lighting or cameras in high-traffic areas. Words can't express how difficult it must be for his family and friends, and I truly hope more awareness can help prevent future tragedies. If anyone else in the community has ideas or thoughts on this, or ways to support Ernesto’s loved ones, I’d be really interested to hear them. Stay safe out there, everyone.
