I’ve been thinking about the state of the neighborhood where Unique Aubrey was tragically killed. It’s devastating to realize how gun violence has permeated so many lives in East and West Oakland. The fear that people might feel just walking home or letting their kids play outside must be overwhelming. Agencies are struggling without witness cooperation, and it makes me wonder if community programs focusing on building trust and safety might help. Unique’s case is a stark reminder that real change is needed to prevent more young lives from being taken too soon. My heart goes out to her friends and family as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
