Hi everyone,
I’ve been following the tragic events around Lowry Richard "Ricky" Rivers' case and came across something that caught my attention. Does anyone remember hearing about the "Peace Movement: Let's Live, Let's Love" initiative? I read that it was started not long after Ricky's murder and was led by Councilwoman Monica Montgomery Steppe. It’s disheartening how these violent incidents keep affecting the community, but it’s inspiring to see local leaders taking action.
Besides the usual thoughts and prayers, which are always appreciated, I wonder if there are specific community-led programs that have had noticeable impacts in reducing these crimes. Has anyone attended the gatherings or events related to this movement? I’d love to hear more about how the community is coming together to support each other and what more we can do to prevent future tragedies like Ricky’s.
My heart goes out to Lowry Rivers' family and everyone else who has been impacted by this senseless violence.
Stay safe out there.
I just came across something interesting regarding the unsolved aspects of the Lowry Richard Rivers case. It seems like there was a pattern of gang-related violence in National City around that time, but the unfortunate reality is how long it took to make headway in solving these cases. I can't imagine the agony for Rivers' family, waiting over two years for answers. The arrest of Ismael Betancourt in 2020 brought some hope, but it raises questions about how these networks operate and how challenging it must be for law enforcement to untangle these webs of crime. It's crucial that the community continues supporting one another and works alongside the initiatives like "Peace Movement" to break this cycle. Keeping Rivers and all the other victims of senseless violence in my thoughts.
