I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on the role that James Edward Smith played within his community. From everything I've read and heard, James was the kind of person who brought people together, especially through his incredible math skills. It's not often you hear about someone who could make complex math look so easy and even enjoyable. His commitment to sharing this talent must have been such a gift to his kids and everyone who knew him.
As we all try to piece together what happened to James, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed by the loss of someone who had so much to offer. His influence on those around him, especially within a community like Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw, is an important part of his legacy. This just makes me think about all the young people he might’ve inspired, and how painful it must be for them to lose such a pillar. I hope that we can honor his memory not only by seeking justice but by fostering the same strong community connections he cherished. Does anyone know if there have been any local initiatives or memorials to remember him? It could be a powerful way to keep his spirit alive.
