I’ve been following the Wendy Howard case closely and I can’t stop thinking about how the system repeatedly failed those girls. This isn't just about whether or not Wendy acted in self-defense; it's about how Pitts got away with abusing those kids for so long. How did no one step in sooner? It's haunting to think that if the authorities had responded to the abuse earlier, the tragic events in Tehachapi might have been avoided altogether. I feel for Wendy. It must have been terrifying knowing that your children are being harmed and feeling powerless. I’m not saying what happened was right, but I definitely understand the desperation and fear that led to such a tragic outcome. The jury's decision reflects just how complicated this situation was, but what bothers me most is how this family's desperate cries for help went unanswered until it was too late. I hope this case sparks some change. We really need to ensure victims of abuse are taken seriously and given the support they need. Families shouldn't feel like they have to take matters into their own hands just to protect their loved ones. What do you all think? Is this an isolated issue, or is it part of a larger problem in how these cases are handled?
