I’ve been following the horrendous Menifee case and something has been weighing on my mind. The way this tragedy unfolded was beyond horrific, and I can’t imagine what the loved ones of Yareli Vidal-Venegas and her sons are going through. I keep thinking about how quick everything happened – from the time the deputies arrived to the tragic conclusion. It’s so difficult to grasp how events could escalate to such a catastrophic level in such a short time. What really got to me was the fact that one of the boys was still alive when emergency services arrived but sadly didn’t make it to the hospital. It makes me wonder how much more could be done in terms of communication—and support—for law enforcement to possibly prevent similar outcomes in future situations. I hope the family finds some sort of peace, though I know it won’t be easy. If anyone knows more about community support efforts or organizations working on these domestic violence issues, please share. We all need to stand together to ensure families have the resources and protection they need. Sending all my thoughts to those grieving this unthinkable loss.
