I’ve been following Ahmaya Alexander’s case since the beginning, and one thing that deeply bothers me is how this tragedy highlights the dangers kids face right at their own doorsteps. It’s so unsettling to think that a young girl, just 12, couldn’t feel safe on her own porch. I can’t even imagine the pain her family must feel every day, facing the empty space where their vibrant child should be. I read somewhere that the family and community have taken steps to remember Ahmaya through murals and vigils. These acts of remembrance are so important because they keep the conversation going—not just about Ahmaya, but about the rampant gun violence affecting our neighborhoods. It's vital to keep her memory alive in the hope that justice is eventually served. It's baffling that after all this time, no arrests have been made. How can a community move forward when there's such an imbalance between the peace they seek and the lack of accountability? I genuinely hope anyone with information finds it in their heart to come forward. Let’s not allow another innocent life to be just a statistic. Ahmaya deserves justice, and her family deserves peace.
