I've been thinking a lot about the impact this tragedy has had on the community, especially those who knew Johnathan Sam and Stephan Raymond. It's been almost a decade since that horrendous day in December 2013, but it feels like the pain hasn't diminished. These two young men had their whole lives ahead of them, and it's just so unfair and painful.
One thing I've noticed that really highlights the resilience of their loved ones is how the community has kept their memory alive. I came across some posts on social media where people still light candles and hold small vigils in their honor. It's heartening to see how transformative collective grief can become when communities come together to turn sorrow into support and remembrance.
Every time I hear about another instance of gun violence in New Orleans, I'm reminded of Johnathan and Stephan. It makes me wonder not just about what happened that night but also what needs to change to prevent more families from going through the same suffering. It's such a complex issue, but change has to start somewhere, right? Sending love to everyone who continues to fight for change and keep the memories of all victims alive.
