I've been following the case of Lazarus Dru Ortega, and it's deeply upsetting to think about how his life was cut short at just 17. One aspect that hasn't been talked about much is the impact this tragedy is having on his friends and classmates. Being a teenager and having to face the loss of a friend in such a violent way can be incredibly traumatic. I hope that support systems like school counselors are being made available to help them process this and support each other. It's also so crucial for young people who might have seen or heard something to feel safe coming forward. I can only imagine how challenging it must be to overcome fear or distrust, but community involvement is so important in cases like this. Let's hope someone finds the courage to speak up. It won't bring Lazarus back, but it might bring some comfort to his family and friends to know there's justice being pursued for him. Thinking of them all during this incredibly difficult time.
