I've been following the tragic events around Officer Joseph Santana's death, and one thing that keeps gnawing at me is the flawed communication system. It's absolutely devastating to think that the officers were not made aware of Justin Flores being armed and under substance influence before they arrived. With the 911 call detailing this critical information, it's baffling how this wasn't communicated more effectively. Systems should be in place to ensure that officers have all pertinent information before entering potentially hostile situations. I can't help but think that better communication could have saved lives that day. My heart goes out to Officer Santana's family and the entire El Monte community. This tragedy highlights the urgent need for reform to protect those who protect us.
